It's a bird. It's a plane. It's Ava Sambora! The fifteen-year-old daughter of prime-time TV star Heather Locklear and Bon Jovi rocker Richie Sambora is a flier on her high school's cheerleading squad. "I like being thrown in the air!" she says. "It's an adrenaline rush." As it happens, when it comes to her budding acting career, the sky's the limit.'
"Ever since I was five or six, I've wanted to be an actress," she explains. "I loved attention and would always try to be onstage and in front of people. It was easy to figure out what I wanted to be." Apparently the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Her mom is best known for her roles in the ultrapopular eighties TV show Dynasty as well as the nineties smash hit Melrose Place, the Beverly Hills, 90210 spin-off. "I always wanted to be on set with her," Ava says of her mom. "One of her first films I visited was The Perfect Man. I was super-starstruck because I thought her costar Hilary Duff was the most awesome person in the world."
Soon, Ava will have her own fan club. She made her film debut last year in the highly anticipated Judd Apatow comedy This Is 40, the "sort-of sequel" to the blockbuster Knocked Up. Not too shabby for a first role. "It was an amazing experience," she says. "Everyone was so welcoming." Surprisingly, the only acting jitters this natural admits to are prompted by a familiar crowd: "I really only get nervous in front of my family and friends, because I want to impress them," she says. "I'm very on top of it with people I don't know."
